How many days? Curious. Can’t get past the first day!
Probably 3 days or so?
I mostly stopped as I found caffeine started to affect my gut, it made me feel a bit sick
Came here for the coffee — but this is anti-coffee propaganda!
And for that reason, I’m out.
We’ve got a few of these in the office:
Otherwise… just hit the local coffee shops for my fix when at home (using my trusty keepcup!)
Massive coffee guy here.
Took the jump at the end of last year to a proper bean-to-cup, grabbed one of these from Curry’s. £599 down to £299, I had to.
Also drip with a Hario V60!
Since my original post, we upgraded coffee provisions in the office from the Tassimo to two Sage Dual Boiler Coffee Machines and a grinder:
Coffee is something I feel I should quit, but don’t really have a good reason why.
I’m intrigued by this:
Could you elaborate a bit and help me find my motivation/reason to quit!
Start brewing your own, then you don’t need to feel guilty!
I spend less than £7.50 for a month’s worth of beans
I thought this was a good deal if you drink coffee regularly. Heavy discount on the machine if you subscribe to purchase so many capsules a month. Only have to subscribe for 12 months and you can keep the machine. https://www.nespresso.com/uk/en/subscription
But nespresso…
We have it in the office, tastes like mud.
An espresso should be pulled at about 9 bar but the nespresso machines push around 20 bar through the capsules to create a false crema.
Buy a glass keepcup! like this
You can get them cheaper than that occasionally, also John Lewis sell them.
As it’s Glass, doesn’t carry over any of the horrible tastes from plastic/metal
Yep I have one, just have to remember to take it with me!
I find it great but then I’m use to instant coffee so
I personally prefer instant coffee to brewed coffee. I had an amazing expresso in Brussels that changed my opinion for a little while but most places are meh.
I’ve had a Sage Barista Express for about three years now. Literally the best piece of tech I’ve ever bought.
I’ve tried lots of beans but i find places like Pact way too expensive as I go through a Kilo every four weeks or so.
I’ve settled on Grindhouse Coffee now. £12.50 for Kilo delivered. Less than half the price of most roasters that sell those tiny 250g bags and easily as good (IMHO).

Still using this old machine
Beans from Mustard in Bridewell Alley, Norwich. Hand roasted upstairs by Gerry.
I bought one of these on primeday, we had been using a v60 and an aero press until this badboy arrived.
The company hand makes these in the Netherlands and also produces most of the industrial sized filter coffee machines.
I thought that was a printer!
Looks like a beast of a machine
Water tank top left, coffee beans top right. Hot plate on the left to warm the espresso mugs, oblong panel on the right is cover if you use pre ground coffee. Control panel below that. Steam wand bottom left. All in all it does what I needed at the time even though it wasn’t cheap.
Not sure if Gaggia make printers?
The Moccamasters are bloody brilliant especially during lockdown. Using the carafe model, we just stick a batch on and sip all day long although be warned, you’ll be pretty wired at the bottom of 1.2 litres…
Currently brewing Long and Short who are a newish London roaster but tasty.
