Coffee ☕

Sage Barista Express machine for when I’ve got time, Aeropress for when I don’t.

Both beautiful in their own way.

If you’ve not checked out Monmouth coffee before, they get my vote. Subscription packages available too.

I’ll check them out. Thanks.

Here’s what I will call a coincidence. In another thread @Revels said they’d stand by their assertion from 2021 that Packfleet was a “dreadful idea”

It’s a company I’d never heard of before today and Monmouth coffee use them!

Interesting.

To be honest i get my beans from their store in Covent Garden / Borough Market so seldom use the delivery.

Always wanted to try this but been put off by the Nescafé.

My instant of choice is this but it’s crept up to £5 a tin now.

Did anyone used to drink Percol? I loved the Black and Beyond but I’m pretty sure it was sold off to L’or and they upped the price to £7 a jar.

Just spotted it’s alive again under completely different branding.

Anyone tried this?

My local deli stocks most of Monmouth’s beans to buy and uses their espresso blend in its cafe and takeaway hatch. I love their beans.

However…

I’m currently drinking beans from Origin, their flagship cafe is in Shoreditch, and their roastery is in Cornwall I think.

Nestlés is on my boycott list so I’d be put off as well.

Which is a shame, because I like a KitKat.

Do you grind your own?

Check out HASBEAN and Rave, both offer excellent quality coffee. Also, get yourself a decent grinder and filter coffee machine to go with it, then you can order whole beans and grind as required. It has literally been a game changer for me.

Can you choose them and then see how it stacks up. You know, for science.

Yup. I use this.

As a little factoid about them - they’re electric only, operate in London only, and are a similar/equivalent service to DPD.

But typical rates for a (small) business using them are about £5 per parcel vs £7 for DPD. Evri and Amazon Shipping are about £3/4 for a similarly small parcel

I’ve acquired the goods. :ninja:

Second coffee this morning so far, it’s “ok” better than most instants but nothing to shout about.

@AlanDoe can we merge this with the full blown, Coffee thread pls?

Check out Algerian Coffee Stores in Soho… it’s an institution! Can choose from endless beans from all over and can get an espresso for £1!! Very eclectic and worth a visit

I’ve signed up for Smeg’s bean-to-cup machine subscription, which requires 10 orders of Lavazza coffee. Each order provides 2 kg of Espresso Italiano Aromatico Beans, lasting around 6 weeks. Despite a 20% price increase in December, I’m paying £33.98 per order, which isn’t too bad. After completing the minimum orders, I’ll switch to a coffee-only subscription and save 25%. I saved £450 on the machine through the subscription, and I’m satisfied, although I might explore other specialty beans once my subscription ends. I’ve already ordered a couple of bags from Grind to experiment with.

Such a lovely store. I used to be the one to pick up the office coffee supply from there during my lunch break. Not that I had to do it, just enjoyed going in and speaking to them and having a coffee while there. Now we’re in the city we order from fucking Amazon, which is disappointing. Boo!

Anyone tried Yallah?

I was looking at the subscriptions they do. I’ve been buying beans from the supermarket and just feel like they all basically taste a bit generic so wanted to go back to getting them from a roasters directly.

So in the end decided to go with a roaster closer to home in Cirencester. The intro offer wasn’t bad, although if I’m being completely honest I was suckered in by the branding. I just really vibe with it…

I used to have a Rave subscription. While it is really good at editing and adjusting the frequency, I found that I don’t drink the same amount of coffee consistently so I was always needing to make amendments.

I now just order 4 or 5 bags at a time as and when I need to.
