From experience do cheques sent to Monzo take the full five working days to cash?

@neovo yes it takes a full five days to process.

I paid in my cheque to Monzo earlier in the week. I was pleased to be notified by a staff member that Monzo had received my cheque and gave me an estimated time as to when the funds would become available.

It would be nice if you could see the cheque’s status in the Home feed of the app (alongside a pending balance status). Apologies if this has already been mentioned, there seems to be a dozen threads regarding cheques.

This is a nice touch getting notified

I was worried I wouldn’t hear back until money was paid in and available

Cheers :+1:

Out of interest how were you notified?

In app chat or automated notification?

@neovo it was through in-app chatimage

Nice work :+1::+1:

Just to cheque (!) … I have a Premium Bonds win “cheque” from NS&I here (only a small amount, nothing to get excited about), but it has a couple of slight differences from a normal cheque: it has a specified (shorter) expiry date and it needs to be signed by me rather than the issuer, but is otherwise the same format - is this still OK to send in?

Probably best to use in app chat for that question tbh

Apparently it’s called a warrant, not a cheque.

That’s my new fact learned for today

MSE says it’s cleared in the same way as a cheque

It does warrant chequeing with in-app chat, I’d agree. I just thought I’d consult the luminaries here first…

And how would you cash in any national lottery wins? Those huge cheques you see on TV!

I did receive a cheque recently as well. It’s something that every bank needs to cater for.

Akash in COps went off to question a specialist and as expected the answer is yes, warrants can be cashed. Great!

Wait a second, let me get my ACME Shrink-Ray…

With a very huge envelope?

Why doesnt Monzo just go down the Image Cheque Scheme route, where you deposit cheques by taking a picture and the next working day the money is yours…

I’ve just done this with B, and it worked a treat.

I believe I’ve read somewhere on this forum that this is something they are looking into implementing but it’s not high priority at the moment

Maybe something to do with the external cheque clearing company they use?

Cheque imaging is being rolled out across uk banks this year https://www.chequeandcredit.co.uk/information-hub/faqs/cheque-imaging

That link also has a section on the history of the cheque. I’m keeping that for an insomnia night, should do the trick

I believe cheque imaging is something coming next year. They have to develop the software side of the app first then submit for approval which apparantly takes a while.

Cheque imaging is actively being worked on with some level of priority:

Latest update since that post - accreditation to the cheque imaging system is a pretty long process, so I wouldn’t expect it before Q4 at the earliest (and more likely Q1 2019).
