“We have no plans to offer cheque imaging” is about as transparent as they can be.
You have other ways of depositing a cheque, the same as most people and that doesn’t involve Monzo. They are quite happy with that.

Then why on earth is this thread still open? Where is this rejection of the idea? Why did the @monzo account on Twitter tell me only in February:
Sorry about this Chris, this is something we’re definitely keen to get into the app in the future
I don’t want to speculate. I want an actual answer and some consistency in the answers if an official response already exists. That kind of transparency is what I’m after.
I am definitely keen to win the lottery in the future too!
By the sounds of it the only answer you want is the one you’re not going to get.
They looked at cheque imaging.
They suspended their looking at cheque imaging.
They haven’t said anything since.
So it’s either still suspended or they’re working on it in secret. Either way, there’s nothing further they can really to say. Popping up every so often just to say “No, still not looking at it” would be either naff or aggravating depending on your personal views on the topic.
Be careful with the word “transparency” BTW. It can have a bad reputation on this forum as a word the disgruntled customer generally uses to beat Monzo with a stick of their own making. (Not pointing at anyone in this conversation on that front, to be clear.)
There has been some movement, potentially, in terms of customer expectation in this area.
3 months ago I said this:
I now don’t agree with my own comments there!
Out of all the major banks, they all now offer support for cheque imaging. That’s about 85% of all current account customers, I think.
It’s getting to be an expected feature, so Monzo are now choosing to be “left behind” on this particular feature. It’s not a good look.
To vote on if you’d like it. But we’ve been told that it’s not at all a useful indicator for popularity or anything like that. There are tonnes of topics like that with some very bad ideas might I add
For example, I voted for it because sure, why not - but I don’t need it or really want it.
According to @Revels they have actively rejected the idea.
This is why transparency is needed because no one seems to know what the current status of the feature is.
Including Monzo on Twitter who told me in February they want to bring it to the app in the future.
Not at all. I just want to know if it’s coming or not, and there seems to be some confusion about that as there are mixed messages.
That reply you got is the official position. They haven’t said this is something they’ll never do
I’m sure lots of people feel similarly only-slightly-above ambivalent when voting for topics.
My top-two requested features at the moment would be this and Dark Mode. I currently have accounts with other banks which offer both, but I would like Monzo to also have them.
Of course, I wouldn’t be getting any functionality I couldn’t achieve in some sense (via a combination of my other accounts) but it would be nice to have and would lead to me using Monzo more. Monzo have to decide if that increased engagement is worth it.
There is a difference between
“We are not currently planning to do X”
and
“We are planning to never do X”
For example, I’m not currently planning to go to Spain, but I am planning to never go to Somalia.
Of cheque imaging, Monzo have said the former, not the latter.
Your Twitter message gives you the answer we’ve all been telling you.
There are no plans anymore, they stopped them. They’re just not saying never because who knows what will happen in the future.
Good point - on the Bitwarden forum (also run on Discourse) you only have a limited number of votes so it makes you be a bit more picky when deciding whether to vote for something or not! (you can always remove your vote from a topic though to use it on something else)
At the moment, the most recent public information says that they’re not working on this. So if anyone needs a definitive answer it would be best to go with “It’s not coming” and work from there. The Monzo idea of transparency in the sense of “being open by default” and sharing whatever is available would lead me to believe that when nothing is said it’s because there’s nothing to say.
This is just like any software purchase. Never part with money for features that are promised. Buy based only on what’s shipping now.
Natwest now have it.
Indeed they do.
The latest list of supporting banks, for anyone looking to pay in a cheque at the moment, is as follows:
Banks supporting cheque imaging in-app include:
£1,000 limit per cheque
Lloyds, Bank of Scotland & Halifax
Barclays
Virgin Money (including Yorkshire Bank, Clydesdale Bank & B)
£500 limit per cheque
Starling
HSBC & First Direct
RBS, NatWest, Ulster Bank, NatWest International & Isle of Man Bank
Banks not yet offering support:
Monzo
TSB
Santander
Nationwide
Metro Bank
Co-operative Bank & Smile
Tesco Bank
Danske Bank
Bank of Ireland
AIB
You got an answer. On Twitter. Monzo hasn’t contradicted that answer anywhere in this thread.
With it being available in all the High Street apps, I’d say that makes Monzo doing it anytime soon even more remote.
Monzo has never had a problem with its customers using other current accounts to get features it doesn’t offer. It only seems to be a subset of users on this forum who appear to be opposed to that position on principle.
My 3 banks
SantanderBank do cheque deposits via the app.
