Chase UK Chat (Part 1)

Totally agree. I do think it will come to an end soon, hope it doesn’t though.

My 1% cashback debit card is currently unused as I have access to both the Santander Edge 2% cashback (first £750 spend) and Chase 0% purchase credit cards atm.

I got rejected for the Santander Edge CC :pensive:

I have found myself in a dilemma with it, as I am not really using it atm, preferring to use the Chase 0% Purchases CC, however, that’ll leave me with a £3 fee to pay. Alternative is to spend £150 on the card to nullify the effect of the fee, but dunno if I cba tbh

Finally been given the credit score check in the app.

I hope this is a sign I might get the CC offer soon

I’ve had the credit score option for ages and no CC offer. I don’t think they’re related.

Chase will already be well aware of your credit report without it having to show in the app.

Chase don’t hard search for current accounts do they?

No they do not.

No, but they can soft search you if they wanted to whenever they like.

There’s no relation between having that feature in the app and being invited to the credit card. Initial invites seemed to be based on Chase Community participation or active use of Chase, but some people got declined when they applied so it’s not even a guaranteed approval.

If you were invited and applied they’d hard search you then, but they wouldn’t have had to add the credit score feature in the app to enable it. It’s not what dictates your eligibility.

Wasn’t suggesting the searching was linked just never got the app update that some people did before getting the CC invite so was just curious.

I’m part of the Chase surveys and forum, but still didn’t get invited.

Boo.

Not necessarily. I had quite a jump in my score on Lloyds a week or two back and up popped ‘congratulations, would you like to apply for…’. Which is quite different from their usual generic credit card nudge.

They will still be able to query your report internally without having to have had implemented it in the app before being able to do so. I have soft searches from banks and lenders all the time, they don’t all have a credit checker feature in their apps to allow that. They’d have been able to try and sell you a credit card regardless of the feature displaying your score in the app, they already have that data internally.

Anyone else’s Chase credit card showing on their credit report? Not on mine yet.

Not yet, I would imagine they’ll only integrate with reporting to credit agencies at the full release. Not sure how that process actually works relative to how they already report current accounts.

They shouldn’t be doing any kind of search without your agreement. They don’t need a credit checker, but they do need your agreement.

Ongoing permission is likely buried in the T&Cs

I don’t think that’s true at all for soft searches.

Like its name implies, a soft credit search is a quick look at your credit report and doesn’t affect your credit score. Companies may do them as part of a background check and can be done without your permission. These are fairly routine when a credit card company checks your potential eligibility.

But certain companies that you already have an account with may do a soft credit search without asking your permission first. For example, your bank or credit card provider may do a soft enquiry before marketing a new credit card or product to you. This soft credit search won’t affect your credit score.

You already have an account with them so not unreasonable that they’d run a soft search.

I’ve had soft searches from Santander and I’ve never been their customer but I’ve never been fussed about soft searches.

To be fair, it does look like the expiry is the end of the 16th, not the end of the 15th, as the rate is still showing online on 16th as 4.5%.

No matter, the savings I did have with Chase have already been moved elsewhere for better rates. Not difficult to beat 3.5%. Even Kroo is better…

And next month it drops to “BoE minus 1.50%”, so currently would mean 3.25%

Rubbish rate.
