Changing interest rates within Monzo

And the fact you lose a day of interest for deposits and withdrawals. #notcool

Chip & Zopa are still the better options - unless someone can give me other choices. Zopa if can put it away for x number of days. Monzo & Chase (my main bank) are still behind in the race, a great pity.

Which is an important point, on Ā£10,000 you’d be losing almost 90p of interest from the move! But gaining only Ā£2 total over a year from a shift from 3.2 to 3.22%. If you accidentally take two days it will almost wipe out your returns!!!

Scandalous really.

Less than 0.1% difference in interest rate = I’m not bothering to move anything.
0.1% difference = maybe I’ll move the money for the extra Ā£0.83p/m per Ā£10k.
0.2% difference = I’m definitely moving the money for the extra Ā£1.67p/m per Ā£10k.

Yup. One of the reasons I don’t have savings with Monzo anymore. Too much friction and not in a good way

Currently, HSBC. I’ve gradually moved everything across there, with Natwest as a backup.

The fintech dream for me is over, for now

Chip will always or should always be ahead because Chip and ClearBank does not have to worry about lending interest etc

These days yeah. I do have other accounts as backups but for me it does everything I need.

Just had another look at rates:

3.25% easy-access from Paragon.

But more interestingly:

3.05% flexible cash ISA from Investec.

Haven’t seen Investec offering before, good rate for a cash ISA too.

My cash ISA is 4.25%

Must have been lucky. Is a ā€œloyaltyā€ one tbf

3.4 now on oaknorth, matching monzo!

I thought Chip were supposed to make ā€˜the move’ asap. It seems that the 3.71% is still their preferred rate. I would have thought it should be up to at least 3.91% by now. That said, it is still the best for instant access, but I will consider moving my money if something better hoves into view over the horizon.

New 3.45% easy access option from Paragon

Nice they’ve stopped hiding third party pots behind an ā€œotherā€ option and it’s clearly labelled:

Now, as a Premium customer I want same day access to my savings, even when held in a third party. Make it so, 'zo!

Don’t see that happening any time soon tbh

Monzo don’t have the money to give it to you instantly.

They also don’t have the money to pay your early either so there are ways around it if they can cope with the risk :eyes:

(Edit) and now they’ve got their own competing product is not only about risk

It’s a business decision. They could choose to front it up and take a small bit of risk themselves. To mitigate that even further is why I implied it could be a Premium feature.

Sadly, it’s vanishingly unlikely, but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to do.

Anyway, nice to see higher interest rates!

Outside of Monzo, Gatehouse Bank expected profit rate has just hit 3.90% easy access.

Will Chip respond?

That form of words makes it sound like a more complicated instrument than a simple instant access savings account.
