Card has chip failure - do I have to pay for replacement?

Hi, my card won’t work. It says I need to pay by chip and pin but then comes up with a chip failure message when I insert it.
Do I have to pay £5 to replace it ?

If you go to replace your card, tap faulty; and see if there’s a fee.

If no fee; no. If fee, yes.

Many banks will charge for multiple lost cards that need replacing, I think most wouldn’t charge for a failed card unless it was at extreme levels (indicating abusive use of the card)

I’d guess if it’s your first new card in a year and it’s due to a failed card it’d be free.
