Am I the only person to find the Business statements totally ‘wrong’ in their layout?
I migrated from Santander in November, (I had to pester them to stop putting statements on lined paper and have each separate transaction in its own lined section, not every line with a page-wide underscore..) to Monzo which is a great bank to be with but the statements!!
Firstly they’re printed ‘backwards’ starting at the end of the month and going to the 1st and then every income and expenditure amount is in the same column. This is not how accounting is done!
Also the point size is ridiculously huge. On Santander I get 31 entries to a page, on Monzo, 18. Santander, a title page stating name address, money totals of ins and out, plus bank account data, then the financial data on successive pages and a final page of info, so it was easy to separate the money pages out, print both sided and have it all neat and together, something you have no chance to do with the Monzo statement.
I wrote to the chat place (in the app) to ask if they’d do something about it and was told my recommendations (for a total change!) would be brought to the next think-tank meeting. Looks like there hasn’t been one yet as nothing has changed.
The person I was talking to (who seemed completely on-side with my suggestions) mentioned I could acquire the statement as a .csv file and then do ‘some work’ with that. Oh boy, a .csv file, that is a piece of data!! I think it gave me about 50 columns of uselessness over the 5 I actually require - Date : Description : Credits : Debits : Balance
The necessary columns couldn’t be much simpler and I did spend about 10 minutes removing many in the .csv to try and make it look ok but one glaring issue is evident. I submit the printed statements to the accountant for him to work his magic and sending in an ‘edited’ .csv file as ‘my own work’ looks very suspish since it would be on blank paper rather than a bank letterheaded official printed statement.
So Monzo bank, I am quite happy to send in a page of an old Santander statement (as an example) and ask that you look over the layout as you see it and update the Monzo method accordingly to something similar. I’m sure it would make a lot of people very happy so they don’t have the mixed up confusion that the current layout represents.
Yours in anticipation (and hope)
