150 invites, 150 pounds spent… coincidence

To offer you rewards like cashback which are relevant to you we may need to share your transaction history with retailers and reward partners. We’ll ā€˜de-identify’ it, meaning we’ll replace or remove information that can be used to identify you (like your name and address) so our partners can’t match your transaction history to your identity.

Monzo and its partners will analyse your transactions so we can offer you relevant rewards. We’ll also analyse and measure your transactions and how you interact with each offer.

12% at Morrisons is close to their staff discount of 15% - That seems crazy high!

Feels like fate to me! If only fate had been on my side to have seen this thread earlier

Great job! Some minor bits of feedback after trying out in Greggs:

  1. All of my transactions seem to be tagged as ā€˜Personal’ even though its the only account I have. It seems to have disappeared from some transactions but has remained on others.

  2. I got a duplicate push notification after spending in Greggs - not sure if this is related to the cashback functionality.

Where does the cashback go if it doesn’t go back into your current account?
Is there a cashback pot?

As someone said earlier, I was expecting cashback to be a pot… It seems like a strange call to create another section in the overview… But I guess it helps with visibility / marketing?? Not sure, but I think I would prefer a pot…

That approach seems fine to me (and definitely preferable to extra cashback transactions in the current account feed). So to access it is there a withdraw button in that section?

Ideally I’d like my cashback to go into my Savings Pot, but can understand why this isn’t do-able if there is a third party invovled.

Fortunately I am away at the moment

I had to stop myself getting the Apple Watch Ultra when I was there a few days ago though!

EDIT: Removed the picture as I didnt wanna hijack the thread. Im also loving this cashback pilot its my favourite thing Monzo have done recently!

No, the retailer, see this reply below:

Holy… WHAT! Yeah, no thanks! What you posted there didn’t wrap so it’s hard to see the details but:

we may need to share your transaction history with retailers and reward partners

So, each to their own, but I know how easy it is to de-anonymise data, and I also don’t want my whole transaction history fed into some machine learning model where even if I remove access to that data the model can still persist information about me.

This is a really promising feature and nicely implemented, well done to everyone involved with it at Monzo!

I was presently surprised at the range and usefulness of offers too (having some supermarkets included is always good). Of course, I noticed that the obligatory Greggs was in there, which was mildly amusing - although I’m not likely to use it myself (are people going to be alienated by me saying that, oops?!).

My only criticism so far is that, once you have been through the initial flow, it’s not obvious how to get back to the Cashback view (on the new overview layout). I eventually realised, after poking around, that there was a link on the ā€œDo more with Monzoā€ card, but I would have expected a feed item to show prominently as happens when you turn on a Monzo Labs feature.

Is this something Monzo would consider adding to make accessing the merchant list easier?

Good catch, I didn’t spot that.
That’s really bad from a privacy point of view, as we’re essentially selling our transaction history to them merchants in return for a discount.

Monzo needs to be extra clear not only as to what companies get this data, but also what it includes. For example, despite being anonymised (so they won’t know it’s me, and yes I know anonymisation is a non-starter but let’s assume it works), I make regular transfers to other accounts of mine, and my full name shows in the transaction list. Will that show as is, so the merchants will see all these transfers with my full name in plain view?

Also, if that’s the case, what about other people to whom I transfer money? They have not consented to have their data (i.e. that they received transfers from me, amounts, frequency etc) shared with anyone.

I want to believe Monzo have thought about all this, however a more detailed set of terms laying out all this information would be required.

It does not. Tried and tested.

Yes, I was just about to come back and edit my post as I had just noticed that myself!

It was ā€œbelow the foldā€ on my iPhone and I just hadn’t expected to see it there for some reason. A feed item, at least initially after switching on, would still help.

It’s actually quite a nice widget on the Home Screen there, I have to say.

I suppose the problem here is that I never look at the borrowing section, so naturally I never end up scrolling that far.

Someone has the iPhone 20 prototype :stuck_out_tongue:

As for cashback; got it set up. I never understand who funds these things. 12% at Morrisons is huge; some of the offers like Boots link with Airtime Rewards so I’m getting cashback and money off my phone bill!

Lol, aging iPhone X here (but upgrading this year as iOS 17 has dropped my phone from support)!

I do get it, the A11 Bionic chip has very limited neural processing compared to A12 and later - it basically only works for Face ID, so with more on-device intelligence features my old phone just wouldn’t be able to keep up. It does peeve a bit that the iPhone 8 is dropped at the same time when the X was so much more expensive at launch, and did launch slightly later. It’s not great to have less support than the ā€œcheapā€ phone.

So wait, it’s full transaction list for ALL transactions or just all transactions for that merchant?

My understanding having looked at the ts&C’s is that it is potentially all transactions. I may have misunderstood, you know what it’s like when reading terms…
