I got a letter recently saying I was no longer eligible for premier unless I upped my game on paying money in there.

Cycled some money through and got a ‘congrats you’re keeping premier’ email.

Am I correct in remembering the method to obtaining a Premier account without the required income is to first open a regular Barclays account and then upgrade it to a Premier account, rather than trying to apply directly for a Premier account?

That route didn’t produce the fancy card in the past though that might have changed.

Yeah agreed. Even Nationwide excludes FlexBasic customers from their switching promo which feels strangely exclusionary when they’re member-owned.

I have a datapoint here. I don’t qualify officially for premier but I was accepted. I didn’t receive a black card until a week or two ago, unprompted, I was sent a new black card. This was 1 year after accepting me

I also received a black card after upgrading from a BBA in the app.
