Barclays are going to be coughing up huge amounts of compensation.
“her and her husband”?
“she and her husband”, please
Stand down.
Back to BAU, please. Nothing to see here. Move along.
I thought the regulator had implemented penalties based on availability of banking IT systems?
Perhaps it was just a proposal. I do recall reading about it years ago.
Outages need to be costly and painful, it’s the only way these things will be taken seriously and improved upon.
There are other financial institutions which use Barclays systems for payments such as Gatehouse bank and various building societies.
I still haven’t got the funds that one of these sent me on Friday…
Seems like something similar to what went wrong with bank of Ireland last year
I noticed my own Barclays account is suddenly overdrawn, I can’t see any transactions that have gone out but can only assume some subscription that was allowed to go into unarranged during their outage. Pretty poor from them to be honest
Went and spoke to Barclays yesterday about my Premier Account and I ask them about “new card design” and no one in the branch had any idea about the new card.
They said as fair as they know the original “bumpy” card is the one that’s be issued.
Unless they have one themselves I doubt they ever get told about card design changes.
I think that’s been the case with other banks. We’re in the minority here in that most people don’t give two hoots what design their card has and it’s not usually something a bank would promote in any way, as in make a specific song and dance about it. So I wouldn’t expect staff to get some sort of bulletin or memo about it.
Is the Barclays thing not sorted out yet? Paid a standing order on the 2nd to a place that uses Barclays and it still hasn’t turned up.
In which case, did you request a new card to see if you’ll get the non embossed card?
I’d chase up on that if I were you - I paid into Saffron, Skipton and Principality building societies on the 1st. They all use Barclays for clearing and everything was showing by Monday.
I think that’s fairly true, but banks spend a fortune on branding and redesigning their cards is usually part of that, so they must feel there is some benefit. Also Monzo’s hot coral card design was a big talking point for people more generally when it launched, so if you get it right you can get people interested.
True, I guess for fintechs in particular it’d be more important. But I can’t see bigger high street banks like Barclays or Lloyds making much of a big deal of it. Staff would find out eventually and customers would just have a letter with their replacement card at expiry as always.
I remember NatWest had a poll on Instagram when they launched their new card designs, but the only times I can think of a bank informing me of changes to the card was first direct and NatWest when they switched from Visa to Mastercard, but that was because it was a change of card network and a new card would be issued out of sequence with the expiry of the old one.
Is the Barclays online/mobile banking app in the middle of a refresh?
Some of the screens on the app look new, the home screen etc looks outdated in comparison.
Same with the online banking - everywhere looks refreshed then some of the payment screens look totally off brand and the older style.
Yes, it’s an incredibly slow redesign. Check back in a year or so and they might have done another screen.
I really like the new screens and most of online banking looks great but it’s very jarring between old and new.
If you dig deep enough in to the app there’s actually a third even older design on some pages (mortgage etc) so it doesn’t give me much hope they’ll ever finish this redesign before starting the next
It’s just such an awful app. I couldn’t use it without wanting to throw my phone at a wall.
