Barclays Chat šŸ¦…

Just got an email from Barclaycard:

We need to let you know that Barclaycard Cashback Rewards is closing on 1 October 2025. You can continue to earn and redeem cashback until then.

Coming soon…

We’re relaunching our Barclaycard Cashback Rewards service in the app and changing the name to Barclays Cashback Rewards. Keep an eye on your inbox for more news and updates soon.

Just bear with us while we’re getting the new service ready for you – there will be a three to four week period from when the current service closes on 1 October 2025 where you won’t be able to earn cashback with your Barclaycard."

It’s an odd framing - Barclays Cashback Rewards actually already exists, for the debit cards, as part of the Blue Rewards package. Presumably the idea is to consolidate the systems/logins.

I’m hoping they don’t force CC users to sign up to that as it has a Ā£5 fee and is terrible value.

But yeah I have the same system via Natwest and RBS, and also my Virgin Money debit card, weirdly I get more offers on those than Barclaycard usually.

Are the virgin money ones worthwhile, or just align to most other?

Upgraded to Premier to see if I could get Avios Rewards and get the bonus. It worked but it also said I’d be issued a new card, problem is I’m moving in a few days (I thought it would just give me the option for a new card and I could decline). What should I do?

They can give you the card details and you add it to mobile wallet and use before it arrives.

Set up mail redirection, though may take a few days to kick in. Don’t choose the option to let senders know you’ve moved as Barclays will likely close your account assuming fraud.

Royal Mail need five working days to organise a redirection.

How do Barclay’s compare to a bank like NatWest these days? Are the high street banks mostly the same? I’ve been with NatWest since 2011 but I am considering opening an account with Barclay’s as they appear to be the only UK bank that still do bankers drafts… (I have a niche reason to need one 3-4 times a year, and NatWest stopped doing them as of last month.)

I’d say the NatWest app is probably ahead of Barclays but Barclays aren’t… terrible.

You can tell it’s a built on a house of cards but things work if not a little slowly - you get notifications, easy to do what you need

If you have Premier you get a better level of service on phone if that’s your thing

Thanks for the info, I’d likely only use the account for the bankers drafts, so I wouldn’t actually need the app at all (I’d send the money from my NatWest and then I’d have to go into a branch to get the bankers draft). Though I do see the Blue account comes with AppleTV and decent savings accounts for only Ā£5/month, hmm…..

Premier includes the Apple TV+ and savings accounts without the £5/month fee, need a salary of £75k to be eligible though.

Barclays app is nothing in comparison to NatWest, who id say had the best app across all high street banks, LBG second.

The Barclays app works it’s just sluggish, notifications aren’t instant and don’t come with sound, spending analytics is decent though. Having worked for them; they heavily rely on branch activity which is a shame (especially if you get locked out for some reason).

Probably worth just opening an account for your specific reasoning, however I’d not want all in with Barclays given their reluctance to move into a more modern app experience.

Sadly while the salary requirement would not be an issue, I get paid in USD to a US account so unless Barclay’s are willing to accept uneven Wise transfers as my ā€œsalaryā€ I don’t think that would work!

Gotcha, I should probably do as you say and just stick with a current account solely as a means to get bankers drafts… 4.36% on the rainy day saver is appealing though (when I’m only getting 3.5% from Monzo…)

The salary doesn’t have to be paid in to Barclays, just the equivalent amount paid/transferred in over 12 months

Oh really? Do you know if NatWest’s Premier account is the same? I know their requirements are higher (Ā£100k single/Ā£120k joint) but if they also just want that amount paid into the account over the year that is interesting… I’d have to shift a larger percentage of my income over here each month (right now about 20% stays in USD for USD things) but if I move a higher percentage and they count benefits like education allowances (which come in and leave within days) then I’d qualify…

No idea on Natwest sorry, only know about Barclays as I used to get paid in to Monzo then move it between Barclays and Lloyds to qualify for Premier and Club Lloyds.

I was actually going to ask if anyone just kept moving money around to qualify for premier status with multiple banks…

Barclays is the only ā€œpremierā€ account I qualify for. Lloyds is just the Club Lloyds account to get free Disnsey+.

Couple of standing orders and it gets me Apple TV+ and Disney+ for free. Just need to find an account that offers Netflix and Prime Video next
