Not the question I asked though was it, was saying is this new or not.
No, the limit on cash deposits was introduced in July 2024.
Afaik there is no way to upgrade from a basic account to a standard BBA, it would be a case of opening a fresh account.
I have my original account that Iāve had for almost 20 years and also had a secondary account for bills, which I decided to close as it had a different sort code to my main (OCD issues
) but when I opened another account to replace it, I was given a basic one for some reason, even though I had my main regular BBA (now Premier
). I kept it for about a year before it let me open another additional BBA to replace the basic.
Yeah screw that. My complaint was dismissed so went to the CEO as I didnāt feel the handler addressed all issues at hand.
Will update with the outcome and close the basic most likely.
What was your complaint?
Long winded.
App told me to call to verify details when opening a new account.
I called, they said yeah go visit a branch to sort this.
My dissatisfaction was the fact the app told me to call, not visit a branch. Anyway, the line dropped, and I didnāt get a call back after already expressing dissatisfaction and wanting to raise a complaint.
I then explained I cannot go to a branch because working hours trump branch opening hours so thatās the inconvenience and also financial loss of needing time off work, unpaid, and travel costs, to go to branch on a whim which would probably tell me to come back another day, which is further inconvenience and more financial loss.
My second call, explaining all of this, took over an hour to raise my complaint and when it was finally looked at, it was dismissed and told they will give feedback.
They decided as its feedback, they donāt respond saying they donāt uphold my complaint, meaning I canāt go the ombudsman about it - this is not best practice for any bank.
I will be closing my account, but the way they handle this is not professional by any means.
Sorry this happened to you but itās barclays just keep well clear they really arenāt worth the stress
I really agree. What a
show
I voted with my feet due to their poor customer service, so CASSād my account away, as easiest way to close it.
Didnāt get any switch offer bribe, just wanted it closed.
Closed my Barclays current account years ago when they wanted me to go in branch just to use the app. Surprisingly, wasnāt happy about that so CASSed out
Barclays did āproperā packaged accounts, called Additions, back in the day. I personally think that āpacksā work better as you can pick and choose what features you want or donāt want.
Got the switch money, 6 working days after switch completion.
Now to find a better account to switch toā¦
That wonāt be hard ![]()
Is it worth the additional £3?
Deciding that is on my list of things to do⦠Iāve got both that and the Travel Pack. Up until a few months ago, I was still getting staff discount, despite not working for them since 2010, so paying full price at the current prices is still a shock!
With regards to the Tech Pack, I currently have four iPhones, three iPads, three Apple Watches, two sets of AirPods and two iPod touches all insured. I donāt see where Iād be able to insure all those for Ā£17.50 a month.
The Travel Pack might be getting the chop though. Itās mainly for the breakdown cover, which insures me in any vehicle Iām travelling in. Plus the travel insurance which saves me having to arrange it separately for my holiday in a few weeks.
I sound like Iām selling it to myself ![]()
FD, RBS, Natwest
Prob just gonna switch it to my Lloyds Premier, hasnāt got anything important. Trying to condense everything down to that and my Monzo Max (which I definitely didnāt get just because I love the cardā¦)
Lloyds Premier makes Barclays look competent in comparison.
Not even being able to add a card to Apple Pay in 2025 then trying to convince the customer they donāt āmeet the requirementsā.
