Barclays Chat

It does, as you can (maybe from September, it’s not entirely clear) access Apple TV, as well as all the other Blue Rewards benefits for free, alongside the Avios Rewards. Whether or not that’s any use to you personally, it’s still something you can have.

It’s to do with minimum payments isn’t it…

No difference at all if you pay in full every month.

Yep.

This is the email for anyone who missed it. Received it back in April.

Helpfully, Barclays sent an app notification saying “reminder about Blue Rewards changes” despite never having contacted me or provided a document to me with changes listed…

Thanks - I pay in full so that’s not an issue for me.

Thinking of opening an Premier account to get the Barclays Avios Rewards (at least for one year). Never banked with them before.

For those banking with Barclays (and have the Avios Rewards), what has been your experience so far?

As far as getting the 1500 Avios? Like clockwork at the start of the month. Any Barclaycard Avios due usually appear later the same day in a separate transfer.

I’ve not needed customer service since upgrading to premier, but had a transfer to another of my accounts held for fraud checks a couple of years ago and that was just awful trying to get it sorted out. There’s a ‘Wealth Hub’ which would be pretty interesting if it worked properly, but is effectively populated manually so you might as well use a spreadsheet.

Getting set up was a bit of a faff as I had to ID Verify in person, but once that was done it was a breeze.

They’re slow to set up your accounts initially so expect jank app behaviour for 2 weeks and a few months for them to get a full appraisal of your financial status if you’re planning on taking out additional products (mortgages, loans etc).

Other than that they’ve been good and their phone support have been excellent.

I’d like to take a second to quickly rant about barclycard. I’ve had the same card for years with no rewards but it helped me get a good credit rating, whatever. So I haven’t used it much in about a year or two, I’d obviously like to swap to another card that gives me any kind of benefits or even just looks nicer in my Apple wallet :joy:

Turns out I just can’t switch, in any way shape or form. I have to cancel my credit card and just wait 6 months to then apply for a different one. Is that standard, it feels insane? I’ll probably just end up taking out an Amex than sit and wait 6 months for them, what’s the benefit for them of operating like this?

Risk.

Assuming you’ve a Forward card, which is for those they deem risky based on their credit file.

They might think you’ll get a better card/limit and blow it all.

If you’re eligible for Amex, get Amex. Nothing stops you.

I just changed within the app.

I take it you’ve not got that facility made available to you.

It’s also for those under 21 who they seem to see as risky by default. :muscle: I.e me.

I’ve Jaja too though. Sometimes they both place erroneous visa blocks and I’ll use the other in the interim

Trainline is mega dodgy

Forward is for any age they deem risky.

However, their other cards can’t be applied for if you’re under 21. You’re holed into only Forward meaning they view under 21s as risky by default.

Trainline has always been dodgy!

I book through LNER if it’s not the same day, to avoid the booking fee. However, when I’m trekking back from work, LNER app is a bit annoying if you’re travelling in less than 15 mins time - so I default to Trainline

Ah is that what is is!? Yeah so I opened the forward 5ish years ago before I had much of a credit history, but they 4x’d the limit while I was with that card so they must have had some trust in me. I just don’t understand how they don’t have a process to now re-assess your risk level and open up their products to you. I have a mortgage with them and I have their premier banking account at this point but can’t open a new credit card, nuts.

Unfortunately not, I’m learning they just have no way to swap from a forward card to any other card, without cancelling and having a 6 month gap.

I book via LNER as well. Also trainline never works with IET reservations!

If it’s your oldest credit card then maybe keep it open, unless you’ve had a bank or similar credit product as long then just move to the next best.

I say the above in reference for impact to your credit file, but if you don’t have a mortgage application in the next 6-12 months you’re fine either way.
