1. I want my actual balance converted into a daily spending allowance
The main thing I want to know is very simple: based on the money I actually have available right now, how much can I safely spend each day until payday?
Targets almost does exactly this. It gives me a daily amount and adjusts it depending on how much I’ve spent. The problem is that I first have to create an arbitrary target based on what I think I’m going to spend.
I’d much rather have the option to base that calculation on my actual available balance. If I have £825 left and 18 days until payday, tell me I have roughly £46 per day. If I only spend £20 today, tomorrow’s allowance increases. If I spend £70, it decreases. It should just keep recalculating automatically until payday.
2. Balance/Left to Spend doesn’t solve this
The Balance version of Left to Spend is closer because it’s based on my actual money, but it doesn’t give me the useful £ per day until payday figure that Targets does.
It also deducts upcoming bills. In my case, my bills are already accounted for because I keep the money for them separately in Pots and the bills are paid directly from those Pots. I therefore want more control over what Monzo considers genuinely available spending money rather than it automatically deciding what needs to be deducted.
It feels like Monzo already has both halves of the feature: Balance knows how much money I actually have available, while Targets knows how to turn a remaining amount into a daily allowance. I’d really like the option to combine the two.
