(Any Advice) Worrying Matter

Dont think i did this off my own back.

It really depends on the sending bank and how they handle things.

It will take some time for the sending bank to realise they can’t route the money to your Monzo account, how long they try to deliver for varies bank by bank.

Personally I have had this happen before, it took a few days for it to bounce, and actually the sender was contacted by their bank to ask whether they wanted to retry/try via another route or return the money.

Because the money never actually reaches Monzo, the team at Monzo can’t help you, it’s all down to the sender.

Thanks. Time will tell.

This is the sort of issue where there isn’t an ‘answer’. Monzo doesn’t send the payment back, if we receive the payment it’ll be applied to your account.

Unfortunately we have no viability over the payment until it arrives - so there really isn’t much information we can provide. The payment is the responsibility of the sending bank until it hits your account.

We have no way of telling where the payment is in the international banking system - and depending on far it gets depends on how long it might take to return to you.

I appreciate this isn’t the answer you’d like to hear but it’s the reason we don’t officially support an iban and our official position is to use Transferwise for all international transfers.

I was just trying to understand your question so that I might be able to help.

I hope your situation gets resolved quickly :+1:

using IBAN?!

@Ghostofcain

You don’t need to be so hostile when people are trying to help you.

If you weren’t so desperate to avoid paying a fee you wouldn’t have these issues.

Like it was anything to do with paying a fee, I got told by the firm that they have paid Monzo many of times before to the UK.

If Monzo can’t reliably handle international payments, I don’t think they should be providing customers with IBANs.

They don’t

We definitely do not provide an IBAN to any customer.

The only way to get an IBAN for a Monzo account is to use an online iban generator.

Sounds like you’ve been poorly advised by said company.

I think that Dan who is not you is gently suggesting that the Monzo blog post about how to generate an IBAN should quietly be taken down.

but, why would they make it up? No benefit to them. They arent 100%. Mine was unlucky, Im livd, but it happens. I guess. I will let everyone know how this concludes

Yes using iban, I’d already initiated the refund and they wanted to pay direct to the account I’d originally used which is why I decided to forgo transfer wise.

Thanks for that information, where was they based?

If you need a guaranteed always to work no matter what account for international transfers then Monzo isn’t the fit for you.

The answers are on that specific weblink, it’ll either go through or it’ll get returned.

True, I’m risk averse so would always use Wise instead, especially if transferring a large sum or urgently needing it.

It may turn up or it may get returned, but it’s much better to not have to even think about it.

Hopefully, all will be fine in the end!

But I would still use Wise next time.
