I’m also on the Gold Credit Card, so might need to rationalise things because I’m also a joint cardholder on my wife’s Rewards account - might get a bit confusing having two of the same card in my wallet!
you can take advantage of their sign-up bonuses more than once, but it requires a bit of forward-planning (and ideally a willing partner to share a supplementary card with), and careful reading of the Head for Points guide.
Also if you’re thinking of turning Membership Rewards points into frequent flyer miles, have a read of what you’re getting yourself into first - HfP is good for that too. A free flight is often not a free flight as you’ll still have to stump up for taxes and charges, but miles can be a cost-effective way to upgrade to fancier seats than you’d be willing to pay for.
Can’t remember my own source for this but when I posted about the change of design at the start of the year (before the new one had officially launched, it turns out) I said that the original Blue card was launched in 1998.
I got the AMEX Blue Cashback shortly after it launched. 18 year old me wanted a futuristic looking card! Sadly uni me enjoyed the credit card life a bit too much on nights out! Thankfully, got my shit together and moved the balance to interest free cards and got it paid down over a few years. Did teach me a valuable lesson and I’ve never carried a balance since, but that card despite looking futuristic, cost me at the time.
Spoke to them on the phone - helpful as ever (though an unusually long hold time). They said that moving from Nectar would mean a new application and credit check, which I could do without at the moment, so think I will just let it convert and take the free first year.
I currently have the free BA card and thinking of applying for the Nectar one. Not sure if they’ll give me the free year as I already have an AMEX. It says the first year is free, but not sure if this is considered like the other introductory bonuses.
I’ve got the cheapskate blue rewards card and a few months-old Nectar and have had no annual fee for the latter, but Nectar has its own intro points bonus that I wasn’t eligible for.
Referrals only work for people who don’t hold (and haven’t held for 2 years) an Amex card. Ie those who would be eligible for any of the card sign-up offers.
Don’t take my word for it but I’d say it’s more than likely free for the first year. The Gold is, even if you hold / held another card.
