Amex (American Express) Discussion

The points I get using the Amex outweigh the fee usually. Vast majority of stays have a cashback offer attached as well and are often pre-paid not flexible.

So I cancelled a pre-order that I’d used my AMEX for and the pending transaction has gone off my transactions list but the amount is still not available, it’s been almost a week now, is this normal?

I’ve had this happen with Amex once or twice but only for a few days at most, never a week. Might be best to contact them.

I suspect it could still be pending in the background. My Apple preorder disappeared but then reappeared again when it settled. It’s not a new transaction as the date matches etc.

I say a week but I just checked and I cancelled the order on the 16th this Monday ha, so it’s been 4 working days if you count Tues - Fri.

I’ll see if it disappears Monday or Tuesday next week, if not I’ll phone them.

I only noticed because I paid my balance off yesterday and my available isn’t the usual.

Amex balance down for anyone else, or just me?

Edit: working again

If one cancels / downgrades from Gold or Platinum, does Priority Pass get cancelled immediately? I downgraded from Plat to the free card a few months ago, and I know that I get to keep my hotel statuses until the end of the membership year.

I thought PP gets cancelled instantly, but when I log into the app, it shows as membership expiring January 2026… I am travelling next month unexpectedly, and would welcome lounge access. Do I try?

Be the guinea pig and report back

Isn’t the PP linked to the actual Gold or Platinum card, so I wonder when you go to scan the PP QR code computer will say no.

Could well be.

I’m being told I can’t upgrade to Gold for a year and I don’t want to do a fresh application while my mortgage goes through. I could re-upgrade to Plat but that feels excessive.

But then I have to sit in the airport like a commoner.

Anyone ever used “plan it”?

Not when you have to pay for it, no.

Nah … Flex is free for 3 months, so just use that instead!

Looks like Amex are changing their travel insurance provider from AXA to Europ Assistance from 1 Jan 2025.

Saw it in the app, never heard of them before.

Trustpilot reviews seem a bit ehh, lower rated than AXA

Price goes up, benefits go down. Yay.

I think we should stop using Amex because they’ve got 1.6 stars.

Fair enough, hard to evaluate a company I’ve never heard of without using trustpilot reviews though

Trustpilot is the worst place to get a good idea of a company.
