They don’t. I used Apple Pay for a >£100 transaction today.
My AmEx card didn’t work (twice) - it came up as “unsupported card” but my Nationwide credit card worked fine.
I suspect it’s an AmEx/Tesco thing.

Used Amex at Tesco for £150 via Apple Pay at the weekend
Amex via gpay is very hit and miss with Tesco for me.
Happy to be corrected!
I’m new to this whole world.
Could I get free seat selection on Qatar flights as well if I book through the BA website?
Not quite. Your BA status will also have a OneWorld alliance status (Bronze is Ruby, Silver is Sapphire and Gold is Emerald).
It depends what Qatar gives to OneWorld Ruby members. Maybe it’s also free 72-48 hours before or maybe it’s a discount?
My match now shows in my RJ account. This is the email I got from them. I read this as the status lasts exactly 12 months.
I’ve also updated my membership number via Finnair for my BA flight on Saturday and been able to select seats that previously would have cost about £150 for the four of us for free.
A very quick turnaround from application to being granted status. Maybe worth upgrading for an upcoming flight of ours.
Has your BA Exectuve Club account also upgraded to Bronze?
I suspect you’ll need to show the BA Bronze Card to utilise the check in desks etc.
Oneworld Ruby gets you access to priority check-in.
For this booking as it was paid for with Avios and won’t earn Avios or tier points I’ll just leave my RJ number on the booking.
For my future cash bookings I’ll switch the number back to my BAEC number either after bag drop or if I’m travelling hand luggage-only then I’ll change it after I’ve been issued a boarding pass to make sure I get both the benefits and the points.
Nope, that will remain blue. Not sure what colour my boarding passes will be though.
Interestingly the table below doesn’t mention priority boarding, but I’m pretty certain the boarding pass I’ll be issued will have group 3 on it.
Seems fairly straightforward.
Although how do you after check in change back to your BAEC number?
Can you do that via the BA app? Or must you see a BA Guest Agent?
Easiest way would be at the airport.
I think Finnair Manage My Booking will allow you to do it.
I haven’t tried it personally though, just going by the article and comments on Head for Points.
Looks like the route to get a Silver status match has been shut down now. Still possible to get Bronze though for now…
Is there a thread for BA related stuff? Most of the conversation here has nothing/almost nothing to do with Amex.
I don’t think so, but nothing to stop people from creating one!
Amex Platinum gives you Hilton Honours Gold as a benefit, which can be status matched via Royal Jordanian for BA Bronze equivalent, so yes, this is relevant and doesn’t need to be moved.
Tenuous, at best. Amex MR points can be exchanged for Virgin Red points which can be used to obtain food at Greggs. What do we all think of the Mexican Oval Bite?
Where do I find those? In Wales they have corned beef bakes and those are great – not seen them in England. Is the Mexican bite another regional special?
I didn’t think so but maybe. Same filling but on an oval hard-but-also-soft bun (or cob as the locals say).
Stotties are my favourite regional Greggs variety.
Ah, the oval is a chicken sandwich, that’s why I don’t know about it!
Stotties look interesting though!
