Speaking of defects, I just checked my card today. I mostly keep it in my wallet because I use Apple Pay. Ordered replacement.
End of Feb to early March.
Got a £5 off a £5 paypal offer on my BAPP card today.
Just wondered. Mine was a few months later but as you describe, not black and I have to angle the card to catch the right light to read it.
My new one came today and it’s pretty much like yours but without even looking at the card from any angles, it straight up is brown with no black ink over it. Literally looks like someone’s scratched it off.
The black on the Platinum design (the non personal information) is also green all over.
Is your card tinted green and text scratched off or have you got black black?
The black bottom part is no longer present in the new card, but if I swipe my finger over the numbers, they appear slightly embossed that’s new (see arrows for light reflections).
I’m curios now, was the old car made in the USA? As it has that USA 12.19
Here’s a comparison between them
Hmm, weirdly my Platinum looks like neither of those. I suspect, like Monzo they’ll have multiple different card producers and maybe they’re following different production styles.
Mine was issued last year, but looks like the top one, only that it’s not got the USA 12.19 and instead has a 7 digit number before the bit where the top card goes into the 12169… the floating 703 isn’t present.
The numbers on mine are a solid black, similar to the PLATINUM on the top card.
What does your front look like? Is it tinted green? I think the ones that are tinted green have the browning issue from my experience with two cards now.
Both of my cards don’t have the USA written on it.
I think you’re correct. The ones sent to me via RM have been black black with little browning issue. The cards sent to me via DHL have been tinted green with the brown text. I think they’re from different places. Amex said they’d sent me another one and it’s coming via RM, so will update next week.
The color on the front of the cards is quite similar, but the new card has the text slightly embossed, similar to the back.
Ahh, yours is fine. Did it come via RM?
I’ll post the colour differences in a bit.
Yes, Royal Mail delivered it
Does the bottom one have the centurion engraved, can’t seem to tell from the photo.
It is. They’re both the same.
This might have something to do with Amex changing how additional cards and supplementary cards are branded.
They started calling the complimentary fee-free supplementary cards in the US “companion platinum/centurion card” instead of Gold (I don’t think even American Cent ever got free plat). The free platinum cards on UK Centurion are also now differentiated from a normal platinum card. They are now called “The Centurion Platinum Supplementary” card – my AC platinum card does not have “platinum” printed on the back but is otherwise indistinguishable from a normal plat.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they change things quite often without people noticing. The first contactless centurion was still titanium and had serious peeling/adhesive issues.
Even after switching to steel, I suspect they also changed things up when they launched the 2 additional designs. My old card used to get scratched, but the new one is pristine despite being my go-to letter opener.
edit: added photo, spelling
I pay my Platinum cashback card monthly in full by DD. Amex collect this 14 days after the Statement Date which is 10 days prior to the Payment Due date. They have now advised that WEF 1.11.2024 they will be taking the DD 12 days after the statement date with the Payment Due Date remaining the same. I would have thought they get the payment long before the Payment Due Date and now they want it two days earlier. All other cards take the DD payment on the actual Payment Due Date. It’s no big issue for me but I think it’s a sharp practice which will be even sharper by two days.
Quite the lineup you have there!
I got the same email yesterday.
